The BIS program is available to students who have completed at least 60 hours of college credit. In the distance learning program, students will earn a field of study in General Studies, Applied Science/Agriculture, and more through a combination of online and other distance learning courses.

Adults find the BIS program appealing because of its flexible degree requirements and alternative methods of earning additional credits. Correspondence courses, KET telecourses, and past work experience can also apply to the fulfillment of the degree requirements. Students must have access to a computer with Internet connection in order to enroll in online courses.

The distance learning program is offered in cooperation with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System and the Kentucky Virtual University.

This degree program works well for students in established careers who do not need a specific academic credential for a new career, but are looking to complete their bachelors degree. BIS graduates are fully qualified to enter graduate programs. Previous BIS graduates have gone on to complete law school and other graduate programs, doctoral programs, and professional degree programs.

*Formerly the Bachelor of Independent Studies program. Beginning December 2007, students who graduate from the BIS program will earn a Bachelor of Integrated Studies degree.
