Summer Art Workshop

June 8-13

(day and residential camp)

Age: For those entering 10th grade through just completing 12th grade

This year’s workshop will focus on drawing and printmaking.  In the drawing portion of the workshop, students will explore both wet and dry media.  Emphasis will be given to the process of drawing and will focus on line, value, texture and composition. Studies will be based on still life and landscape.  The printmaking portion of the workshop will introduce both monoprinting and monotyping, using both traditional and experimental approaches.  Prints will be based on drawings that focus on line, value, color, texture, and composition.

   
Young Authors June 16-20
(day camp)

Age: 8-12 years

The goal of this week's camp is for participants to learn to enjoy writing.  Young authors will practice a variety of styles (poetry, fictional stories, true stories, essays, skits, etc.) under the direction of a combination of local teachers, visiting writers, and college English majors, who will serve more as writing coaches or consultants than as traditional classroom instructors.
   
Purcell Tennis Camp June 15-21

Summer Challenge camps provide gifted children opportunities to learn and express their talents through a variety of different areas.  A residential camp option gives students a unique experience to not only live on a college campus during the session, but to spend time with other talented children from across the region. A commuter camp is also available for those who do not wish to take advantage of the residential option.

Trumpet Workshop

An intensive 3-day workshop for serious trumpet students in middle or high school, the MSU Trumpet Workshop is in its 15th year.  Participants will benefit from the expertise of Eric Swisher, a nationally recognized, professionally active trumpet artist.  Workshop activities will include master classes, lecture demonstrations, individual coaching, warm-up sessions, group lessons, listening and question/answer sessions, as well as group discussions and other activities.
