Gifted and Talented Certificate Endorsement

Who is eligible:  Holders of Kentucky teaching certificates 

     The program will provide a four-course sequence leading to Kentucky’s G/T Teacher Endorsement.  Students will enroll in the following  required courses and practicum. The two required core courses must be taken in sequence, and must precede the practicum experience. 

  • Nature and Needs of the Gifted Learner

  • Methods and Materials for Teaching Gifted Students

  • Practicum in Planning and Instructing the Gifted

     To complete the four-course sequence, and/or to further develop their expertise, students will choose one or more of the following options:

  • Creativity in Teaching

  • Multicultural Gifted Education

     Students will be able to complete the four-course sequence within one calendar year.   Courses – other than the practicum- will primarily be offered via electronic media, with some regional collaborative meetings.  Faculty and students will need Internet access and e-mail capability in order to participate and collaborate in course activities.

Program Prerequisites:

1. The possession of a valid teaching certificate for the elementary, middle school, or high school level.

2. One year of teaching experience (may be the intern year).

3. Admission to graduate study at Murray State University.
